The Allman Brothers Band: Live At Great Woods

There have been many incarnations of The Allman Brothers band, and this 1991 version that gave a gig at the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts in Mansfield, MA, is certainly one of the best. The team consisted of Gregg Allman/key-g-voc, Dickey Betts/g-voc, Burch Trucks/dr, Jaimoe/dr, Warren Haynes/g-voc, Allen Woody/b and Marc\ Quinones/perc and they are swinging through these 80 minutes.

There are a few tunes that are a break from the standard fare of their first 3 albums, notably “Going Down The Road” and the recent “End of the Line” and “Get On With Your Life” with Haynes in fine gritty voice. Betts tears loose on “Statesboro Blues” and “Blue Sky” along with Haynes, and the team jams loosely on “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”. The twin guitars gleam on “Blue Sky” and Allman is laconic on “Midnight Rider”. A nice and impressive mix of the old sounding as fresh as the new.
