Guitar sounds from newer hands…

Guitarist and composer Jason Quick uses his rich toned guitar to team up with Ben Wolkins/tp, J. Ronquillo/b, Zac Kreuz/dr and Ben Maloney/key for eight modern originals. He shows his ability to bop on the nimble “Mugato” while adjusting the knobs and rocking out on “Illusion”. The team delivers and easy swing to “Bitter Beast” with Kreuz giving a relaxed pulse as he’s featured on “Dirty Bird Blues”. Quirky angles set the stage for Wolkins on “Vultures Wear Disguises” and the team lays down a pretty pace on “Strange Waltz”. Casual cohesion.

Smooth toned guitarist Paul Columbo brings together Andy Alonso/b, Ron Thomas/key and Chris Loser/dr-perc for eight band originals that mix easy funk and fusion. Colombo’s sound is clear and crystal on the cool blues of “Wakin’ Up” and able to get some Latin sails blowing for the title track. He glides with Alonso on “Junior” and locks in with Thomas on the soulful “Motion Potion,” the gentle “This Heart” and the Weather Reportish “Soul Mates”.  Easy to imbibe.

Mixing electric and acoustic guitar strings, Ricardo Silveira delivers intimate solo readings of originals and standards. You’ll feel like he’s sitting  by the fireplace  on pastoral pieces like “Rio Texas” and the tender “My Romance” on acoustic guitar. His electric approach includes a bit of echo on the ruminating “Zingaro/Retrato em Branco e Preto” while lurking through the alley on “Tango Carioca”. His touch is delicate for “That Day In Tahiti” and delivers a jogger’s pulse to “Amazon Secrets”. Private musings.
