James Holvay: Sweet Soul Song

R&B vet is best known for penning the pop hit by The Buckingham’s “Kind of A Drag”, but here he sounds more like a vintage Motown/STAX guy on this festive ep. His voice has a dash of Curtis Mayfield to it, so it works well on tunes like the Impressionist doo wop street symphony “Talkin’ About” and on the upbeat “Sweet Soul Song”, with rich strings on the soulful ballad “Still The Fool”. The team of James Manning/dr, Stu Pearlman/key, Les Falconer-James Graham/dr support Holvay on guitar as the make you want to do the jerk to “Love Has Found A Way” with Holvay giving some Steve Cropper inspired licks on the relentless “Working On It”. I wanna see this band!
