Eric Goletz: Into The Night

Back in the day, there used to be a label called “adult contemporary music” that was to the right of wild jazz and left of Kenny G. Trombonist, keyboardist and leader Eric Goletz returns to that day with this album that is both accessible and swinging. The team of Henry Heinitsh/g, Mitch Schechter/p, Mark Gahan/b, Steve Johns/dr and Joe Mowatt/perc is supplemented by a hard hitting 5 piece horn section that punches like Sonny Liston on “Steppin’ Out” and gives a funk-fest to “Say What??” Heinitsch and Gahan rock out on “Mr. PC” and the band gives some spacey effects that sound like a soundtrack to the old MANNIX TV shoe on the title tune, rocking out on “Cat In The Corner”. Goletz solos with abandon throughout with a big sound to his brass, sizzling over the percussion on “What Is This Thing” while also showing a different side on “Lullaby”. Hang on tight!
