Charlie Sepulveda and the Turnaround: This Is Latin Jazz

Trumpeter, leader and composer Charlie Ventura gives truth in advertising on this sizzling set of music for cruising with a sizzling rhythm section of Francisco Alcala’/dr, Nicholas Cosaboom/cong and Eduardo Zayas/p as he shares the front line with tenor saxist Norberto Ortiz along with some heavy hitting special guests. Randy Brecker comes in to create a two trumpet front on the wild ride modal “Liberty” and guest vocalist Natalia Mercado oozes with  passion on the dramatic ballad “Alfonsina y el Mar”. Sepulveda himself delivers a gorgeous serenade with Zayas on the pretty “Estampas, and wieth Nestor Torres on flute the team gives a funny stop-start to “Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White”. Rodriguez’s opening bass solo to “Peer Magic” leads into a sizzling salsa of “Peer Magic” while Turre flexes his brass knuckles on “Tales from the Wall” and Miguel Zenon is bold on the kinetic read of “ Frenesi”. Don’t even THINK about sitting still on this one!
