While the album title is The New Cool, album by David Helbock, Sebastian Studnitzky and Arne Jansen feels more like an arctic freeze. Studnitzky’s horn is emphysematic throughout, gasping for air on “Angel Eyes” and elliptical on “I Feel Free”. Helbock uses piano string pluckings on the long shadowed “Surrounded by the Night” and echoey “Pandemic of Ignorance” while giving an eerie read with the wheezing Studnitzky on an Alzheimer’d “I Remember Clifford”. The team rocks out on “Angel Eyes” and gasps on “Time After Time”. Time for a new heat generator?
