Best known for his mood creating band Ronin, pianist/composer Nik Bartsch delivers a rare solo outing, still forming rich pastels and colors a la a walk in Givenchy. His song titles stay true to his usual format, for the most part, with “Modul 58_12” taking you on a rich and repetitive pattern of a journey, piano strings plucked like a kora on “Modul 55” and oud-like strummings on the plodding “Modul 13”. Echoes akin to Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells take you on a lyrical echoe’d journey on “Modu 26” and the one ringer, “Deja-vu, Vienna” is a rich and elliptical Debussyesque stroll. Sound of night creatures, as Bartsch doubles on entendres.
