Douglas Olsen plays trumpet like 1950s Miles Davis on this warm collection of mostly originals teamed with Dino Govoni/ts-as, Angel Subero/tb, Yaure Muniz/tp, Tucker Antell/ts, Tim Ray/p, dave Zinno/b, Mark walker/dr and Ernesto Diaz/congas.
Olsen’s tone is warm and easy as he struts through the title track and blends with Subero’s trombone on a sublime read of Dizzy Gillespie’s “Algo Bueno”. The 40s classic “Boperation” sizzles with Olsen spitting out notes like an AK47, while he’s as fluffy as cotton candy with Ray on “Una Para Ti”. A double timed “Passage” has the team asserting itself and flexing the biceps on the muscular “Passage”. Vintage currents.
