UK pianist Fergus McCreadle creates sounds inspired by the Scottish hills and valleys with his team of David Bowden/b and Stephen Henderson/dr on this collection of originals. Almost all of the songs have a pattern of soft and reflective endings, and end up with a gradual buildup and declaratory climax. His fingers give a rich intro to the modal drive of “Jig” while McCreadie is dark and dep on his probe of “North”. A mix of classy brushes and bass solo are featured in the title track while the elegiac “Tree Climbing” mixes gentle passages with dramatic dynamics. The team is graceful and ebullient on the wondrous “Tide” and somber for “The Stones of Brodgar”. The moods change like the clouds over the hills, sometime giving sunshine and other times rain.
