Patrick Bradley: Exhale

Patrick Bradley provides optimistic and smooth sailing jazz with an R&B feel as he plays piano, organ and synth with a rotating team that includes Darren Rahn/sax-synth-programing, Allen Hinds/g, Mel Brown/b, Tarell Martin-Gary Novak/dr and a variety of guests. You get lots of funky and tasty treats, such as when Hinds taps into his inner Larry Carlton for a nifty solo on the Steely Dan-ish “Lighthouse” and guest Rick Braun brings his trumpet and trombone for a similarly veined “Cat Man Blues”. Chiming guitars by Michael Thompson provide a Doobie Brothers feel on the upbeat “Reinvention” while David Mann’s horns give soul to the smooth Stevie Wonder-ish “Sip’n The Breeze.” Bradley himself creates pastoral sound on the pretty “In The Heart of the Seas” and gives a gospel feel to the declaratory “Walk With Me” while teaming with Rahn’s synth pulse on the 80s themed title tune. Glossy, shiny and glowing like chrome on a ’57 Chevy.
