Joe Bowden: Roots-Tales of the Urban Yoda

Drummer Joe Bowden puts together a rotating team in trio and small group format. The core of Bowden with keyboardist Robi Botos-Michael Shand and bassist Andrew Stewart-Calvin Beale are on a fun funkfest for their outings, celebrating bop with a beat on “Doodlin’” and driving hard on the post bopper “Jazz Dayz” .  Horn s are bought in by Gordon Hyland/ts, Luis Deniz/as and Andrew McAnsh/tp to give a Herbie Hancock Headhunters feel on the snappy “Golden Rule” and the wacka wooka Stevie Wondered “The Seventies”. Alana Bridgewater adds some lovely voice with an urban soul to “Sentimental”, and the horn section gives a tower of power hit to “Groovin’  High” and “Second Skin”. Afro Sheen is shining bright.
