Trying times call for desperate measures, so Adrian Cunningham has adapted to the COVID lockdown by getting compatriots together for a “socially distanced” recording session. Cunningham sings, plays tenor, alto and clarinet, and is joined via ZOOM by Jon Challoner/tp, Dani Alonso/tb, John Merrill/g, Alberto Pibiri/p, Jim Robertson/b, Marti Elias/dr and Kevin Congleton/tamb for a jaunty non-get together. Cunningham sings along to the desultory “A Quarantine Love Song” and teams up with Pibiri for a saloon-ish gospel come NO in “It’s All Right while he gets swampy on “I’m Broke and She’s Gone”. The brass growls along with Cunningham’s tenor on the title track with Robertson laying down a nice line on the hilarious “Gimme A Sheet of that Sweet Sweet TP” while “Six Feet Is Too Far From You” is a lovely ode to risk spreading germs. Were they wearing masks at the session?
