With Palle Mikkelborg on trumpet, flugelhorn and effects, Anton Langebaek on bass, Benjamin Barford on percussion and Bjarne Roupe’ on electric guitar and effects, mystical moods and atmospheres were created and recorded back in 2016 for a couple gigs at the Jazz/Grooves No 29 in Denmark. Medittive moods predominated, with things opening up with a resounding gong that lead into Mikkelborg’s gasping trumpet on “Witchiptai-to” and an ethereally floating read of John Coltrane’s “Naima” that hovers like incense smoke. Roupe delivers a gentle and lyrical intro to “Saudi” that carries a bit of folksy impressions, with Langerbaek expressing himself and Mikkelborg at his most emotive on the declaratory climax of “Pieces”. The closing “Nature Boy” ends the evening in a collective sigh, making you wish that you’d come prepared with some writings of Khalil Gibran to reflect upon during the listening.
