Classy and classic mainstream sounds are delivered by guitarist Henry Robinett and his team of Joe Gilman/p, Chris Symer/b and Michael Stephans/dr on this issue of a 2000 session of standards. Robinett’s tone and style is reminiscent of Grant Green, tensile and tasty, as on the nimble read of “Yours Is My Heart Alone” and his deep dig of “How Am I To Know”. Stephans’ brushes create a nice undertow to the bopping “Milestones” his high hat coaxes along “Body and Soul” with his cymbals dancing with the leader on “Like Someone In Love”. Robinett and Gilman’s stride dance well on “Darn that Dream” and the two get muscular on “On The Street Where You Live” while Symer and Gilman create a nice pulse for Robinett’s bluesy take of “I Thought About You”. Comfort food on strings.
