Pianist and composer Tony Tixier teams up with brother Scott on violin, trumpeter Hermon Mehari, bassist Ben Leifer, alto saxist Logan Richardson and tenor saxist Adrien Soleiman for a collection of one-take (mostly duet) renditions of material that sounds as fresh as the concept. Tixier starts things off with a warm, rich and fragrant solo of “Humain”, with a cozy parlor feel for the standard “Someone To Watch Over Me” with his violinist brother. Mehari’s horn glistens with a rich vibrato for “But Beautiful”, while Soleiman puffs over Tixier’s wide stride on “You Know I Care”. Leifer intertwines with Tixier on “Like Someone In Love” and RIchardson breathes with grief on “When They Happen”. Music that rebels against social distancing.
