If you want to hear a guitar workshop, check out this album of mostly instrumentals lead by Andy Watts. He has a core team of Tom Bollig/dr, Tom Mochiach/b, Eyal Klein/key, a swinging Memphis-horned section of Moran BarOn/tb, Gregory Rivkin/t and ioram Linker/sax , Coastin Hank/harm and a couple singers dropping in for a rollicking session.
At times, his ax sounds like a mix of Hendrix and Robin Trower, as on the boogie and blue’s title tune, while he sears like Santana over Klein’s organ on “Straight Shooting Woman”. The team shuffles to Hank’s harp on “Living Hand To Mouth” and the strings are clear and dark on the ominous “Don’t Take My Blues Away”. A mix of Freddie King and some Spooky Toothing licks are heard with Roy Young’s raspy “Pack It Up”. Joe Louis Walker adds grit on the swampy “Burning Deep” and soul strutting mistress Eliza Neals growls out an earthy “Blues of the Month Club”. Lessons from a Les Paul
