If you like your vocals fit for a 50s film noir, check out this pair of tunes by a vocalist Barbara Santora. She takes a pair of tunes composed by pianist John Michael O’Leary, and puree’s them through a Gloria Graham mix of sepia and long dark shadows cast by the corner lamp post.
“Midnight Escape” includes O’Leary’s slinky piano along with some dramatic tenor sax work with stark late night story telling in dramatic fashion by Santora, taking you down Desolation Boulevard having you step through a scenario of blue smoke rings and lipstick on the martini glass. For “That’s Just The Way It Goes”, Santora wafts through the haunting opening voices like entering stage left through a foggy door, as she warily steps around the cymbal’d beat as if it were broken glass. Her tragic and passionate delivery is convicting without being overbearing, giving stark observations of the side of life usually seen by only the lonely. Grab a fedora and give it a listen.
