Papo Vazquez: Mighty Pirates Troubadours

Various Latin dances and rhythms are created by leader Papo Vazquez, who plays trombone, sings, hits the keyboards and the Agogo Bells, along with Ivan Renta/ts-ss, Rick Germanson/p, Ariel Robles/b, Alvester Garnett/dr, Carlos Maldonado-Reinaldo DeJesus/perc and a collection of guests. Alto giant Sherman Irby bops to the peppy “Mr. Badu”, smoky “Broke Blues” and the cruising “ewl Cuco/The Boogeyman” with the leader getting in some big toned brass when he teams up with Renta’s tenor on “MY Latin Jazz Mambo” and the soulful “Fairmount Park” with guitarist Antonio Caraballo. Rich voice by Jose Mangual Jr is delivered on the bouncy “Saludo Campesino” and the infections Afro Cuban “No Te Rindas”. Cruises like a V8.
