Vince Tampio plays trumpet, guitar and bass like a master craftsman on this album with guitarists Jel Helder/Drew Parker, bassist Ben Basile, and a trio of percussionists in Alec Meltzer, Ben Diamond and Corey Mark. The tunes are a kind of mix between classy rock and jazz, sort of like Steely Dan but sans the nasally singing. There’s some Santana-ish guitar work along some Latin lines and Tampio’s horn on “The Tontin” and the team gets into a nice pulse for his horn on the back beating “Soul Food Buddhist”. The team sounds like the Tower of Power on the funkified “Cardinal Rule” with some nice wacka-wooka guitar, and the percussion gets discussin’ for the bopping “Blow Our Minds”. A nice fusion with a fuse.
