Doug Webb: Apples & Oranges

Full bodied tenor saxist Doug Webb digs deep as he forms a classic sounding trio with B3er Brian Charette and drummer Andy Sanesi through a combo of originals and a couple standards. Charette veers delivers  advanced Larry Young-inspired post bop as on the sizzling “Forthought” and boogaloos on the soul grooover “Alexico” whle giving a snazzy bass line as he flexes his digital muscles on the bluesy title track. Webb goes deep through the fog on the ruminating “Estate” and bel canto for Duke Ellington’s “In A Sentimental Mood”. He switches to soprano sax as he takes on The Rascals’ pop hit “How Can I Be Sure” as Sanesi propels the team, while the drummer’s cymbals get tasty on the cool waltz of “Monkey Face”. Comfort food sounds.
