Adam Kolker plays tenor and a bit of soprano sax as he leads an impressive team anchored by legendary drummer Billy Hart, pianist Bruce Barth and bassist Ugonna Okegwo on this collection of jazz covers and a couple originals. Of the latter, Kolker’s tenor is soft and nimble over Hart’s brushes on “Flips” and bops with grace on “Hidden treasure”. He goes bel canto on a take of Wayne Shorter’s modal “Lost” and sounds like early Impulse era Coltrane on Gil Evans’ “The Time Of The Barracudas.” On soprano, he’s relaxed on “Dance Cadaverous” and is does a nice tip toe through Hart’s tulips on “While My Lady Sleeps”. Strong and assured outing.
