I guess the team of guitarist/vocalist Derek Olivero, drummer and singer Bobby Gavin and bassist/vocalist Dave De Ranieri didn’t want to get to theological in the arrangement of their letters for the name of the band, but they sure know how to rock out as a power trio. Tones of Metallica hit hard on aggressive and angular “Out In The West” and the 70s thunderball of “Young Love”. Gavin hits hard on “Setting Sun” and Olivero fills his quota of riffs on “Dreamland”. The more acoustic “Outland” and dream “Innocence Ran” are reflective oases in the sandstorm of Stratocasters. Flexing muscles to music.
Consisting of Roly Sandoval/g-v, Nick Dokter/dr-v, Wayne Veillet/b-v and John Hannah/key, the team Big Pacific mixes blue eyed soul pieces such as the laid back title track to Billy Joel inspired piano themes as on “Slip Away”. The team rocks to Bad Company riffs on “Lovin Arms” while hints of rootsy sounds from The Band permeate “California Girl”. Dokter knows how to push the team as on the driving “Here On The East Side” and the hard hitting “Rack ‘Em Up” with the team focusing on a peaceful easy feeling on “Hard Road”. Rocking through the 70s.
