Rick Cutler: Women & Children

Rick Cutler plays piano, keyboards and a dash of drums on this album that has him In a variety of unassuming settings ranging from solo to a cozy quintet. Of the former there are some lovely piano solos such as the thoughtful George Winstonish “Etude” and “Green” , the informal “Hymn #4” and the nocturnal “Trance”. Delicate bodhi tree atmospheres are formed when Dave Wechsler adds his wooden flute to “Japanese Mist”. Pretty and poetic “Time” includes Billy Hayes on glass harmonica and the delicate voice of Charlotte Durkee, with bluesy noirish atmospheres in a small band setting on “The Blues Masters” and the lurking title track. Casual acquaintances.
