Jeff Reed: Look For The  Light

Bassist Jeff Reed delivers hip bop and post bop moods with jazz standards and originals with a swinging team of Sean Jones/tp, Todd Marcus/bcl, Jonathan Epley/g and Eric Kennedy/dr. Reed locks in with Kennedy’s brushes and Marcus’ palpable mass of a bass clarinet for a rich reed of “Tricotism” while Charlie Parker’s “Quasimodo” has Jones in Harmon muted heaven. The horns bop to the blue line of “Segment” and are soulful during the modal “A Look Inside” with Reed and Epley  changing moods, directions and pulses while keeping the rivulet deep. Reed bows out a dirge of “Paragon” and graciously leads in with a picked melody for the title track, while with the horns sitting out creates a warm chamber delight on “Waltz New”. Deft directions.
