Mariea Antoinette: All My Strings

Mariea Antoinette lets us eat rich cake as she plays a wondrous harp in a variety of setting. There’s a core team of Allan Phillips on drums, bass, keys and guitar as well as a horn section of Derek Cannon/tp, John Rekevics/ts and Jordan Moirta on most of the songs, with the AP AllStars Strings section bringing in sweeping drama to most of the themes.   There is a dramatic movie soundtrack feel to many of the pieces, like the slashing strings on “Overture” and some soulful Shafty mooods on “Ain’t Playin’” and “That Thing”. Phillips’ bass guitar gets down with Antoinette on “Sekmet: Lioness Goddess” and the two make some spacey New Age atmospheres during “Garden of Peace” and Antoinette goes it alone with celestial seasonings on “Gaia”. Strums and struts galore.
