****RINGER OF THE WEEK****ENOUGH ‘BONES FOR A CHIROPRACTOR…Nash-Kaplan-Pirone:3 Brosbones

The brass is sliding on this wonderful release by three giants of the trombone, as veteran Dick Nash teams with ‘youngsters’ Alan Kaplan and Massimo Pirone to deliver a workshop with a supporting cast of Allesandro Bonanno/p, Alfredo Bochicchio/g, Flavia Ostini/b and Marco Rovinelli/dr on this collection of slides that would make Lou Brock and Ricky Henderson jealous.

The comparison of tones is a rich contrast of balms, as the trio mix and match to pieces like “All The Things You Are” and “Just Friends”. Nash has a classic Old School vibrato that oozes charm, Pirone features a big fat sound and Kaplan slaps the butter on the bread. Pirone supplies all the brass and reaches low into the magma of “Blue Daniel” and gets soundtracky on the gorgeous “Mr. Nash” while swinging spryly for “Emily”. Nash is bel canto on “Just Friends” and Kaplan is easy going on “Just Friends” with the harmonies oozing throughout. This one is a reminder of the virtues of style, class and beauty.
