OK, let’s just get the obvious out of the way,
“Sisters, Sisters, There were never such devoted Sisters.”
Don’t you already feel better? Now, on to the review-Rachel takes the vocals, Sara grabs the violin, Mama sang bass, daddy played banjo- THERE I GO AGAIN!!!
Now, we’ve got Fred Hersch producing this team and playing the wondrous piano, along with Jeremy Allen/b and Bryson Kern/dr. The sisters blend the sounds of strings and voice in a glorious light through stained glass window of a sound, “two different faces, but in tight places, they think and act as one” as on the haunting “I Get Along Without You Very Well” and luxuriously lilting “Poinciana.” Sister Sara gets a chance to jam with the fellas on “Sweet Adelphi” and Kenny Dorham’s “Asiatic Raes,” because, as you know, “Lord help the sister, that comes between me and my man.” The ladies know how to swing a melody and lyric, “Sharing, Caring” …now stop that! This record is just that enjoyable that they make you want to have a little fun on the sides.
