Brazilian violinist Julia Bomfim teams up with Eduardo Mercuri on guitar and Kan Yanabe tapping the pandeiro on this upbeat and concise ep of four songs, all in concise form of 3-5 minutes. The fingers of percussion and guitar dance to the tango’d Naquele Tempo/Por Una Cabeza” that gives dashes of Gardel, while gypsy violins flow on a lyrical “Rosa” and joyfully enchanting“Um a Zero.” The three artists are festive with dynamic interplay on the melodic “Asa Branca/Voa Ilza” making the short but sweet session causing us to beg for more. Let’s see them come to LA haunts like Blue Whale or Sam First Bar and show what they can do when they stretch out a bit. It looks promising.
