Tales that sound like he lived on the road hitchhiking through the dep south are told by Kinky Friedman with his team of Larry Campbell, who plays just about anything with a string, Lincoln Schleifer/b, Dennis McDermott/dr and Bill Payne/key while backing vocals are brought to you by Campbell, Doc Elliot and none other than Willie Nelson. There’s lots of C&W feel with the pedal steel as Friedman growls through “Greater Cincinnati” and fiddles through “I Love You When It Rains.” The team paints the Nashville Skyline red on “The Bridge That Wouldn’t Burn” and you can count the stars on the clear night of “A Dog in the Sky.” A night at the VFW.
