Trumpeter/composer Brad Goode puts together a disc which is quite forward thinking, yet still accessible. Teamed with Bill Kopper/g-sit, Jeff Jenkins/key, Bijoux Barbosa/eb, Paa Kow/dr and Rony Barrak/perc, Goode uses his dark toned trumpet in a variety of settings. A couple of the pieces such as “What happens In Space City” and “All Fall Down” have a late Miles Davis feel to them; a hard hitting back beat and snapping bass lay the groundwork for some lyrical horn playing, while “If Spirals Had Corners” even includes a hip hop groove. Most intriguing is the re-assesment of the 100+ year old “St. Louis Blues” which includes some sitar and percussion that give a South Asian feel to the latin tinge, while “Mambo Disonante” does a bit of the same, with as impressive an effect. Well thought out, with a bit of a rhythm punch.
