The five piece band of drummer Manuel Pasquinelli, tenor saxist Michael Gilsenan, keyboardist Maja Nydegger,guitarist Markus Ischer and bassist Andi Schnellmann record “live in studio” five pieces from the drummer. The team trudges for 14 minutes with spacious tenor work on”Largo”while digging a deep groove for Ischer on “Made In China.” Gisenan puffs to Schnellmann’s pulse on “Depart” with the band getting angular and kinetic for “Cyan.” Most noteworthy is the pastoral “Breeze,” the shortest piece at three minutes, but also the most cohesive with a perfect mix of breathy tenor and ruminating guitar. Sometimes less is more.
