Trombonist Michael Vlatkovich leads a horn quintet with David Mott/bs, Lina Allemano/tp, Nicole Rampersaud/tp and Peter Lutek/ts, with a nine part suite being the centerpiece. The horns form a rich texture, with a lovely tenor sax aria by Lutek on “Ninety Three” and some bluesy plunged trombone on the New Orleansy “One.” Mott’s baritone is warm as the horns rise and fall for “Twenty Six” and some clever section calls and responses take place during “Twenty Four.” A brassy “People In My Wallet” is rich and bright with Vlatkovich leading a charge on “Natural Identical Flavors.” All throughout, the horns glow like a fall sunset, with nary a disparaging tone.
