Playing off the title from the John Sayles film Brother From Another Planet, Aaron Whitby plays piano synth, Rhodes and vocal FX with a funk laden team of Charlie Burnham/vi, Fred Cash-Jerome Harris/b, Gary Fritz/perc, Rodney Holmes/dr and Keith Loftis/ts. Along with the deep grooves, you get some futuristic vocals from on the synth laden “Sleeping Giant” while the title track has some soul choir getting down to the hip bass groove. Fusiony rock teamed with Loftis’ tenor teams with impressive piano work on “Walking With ZZ” while Holme’s high hat sizzles on the driving “Escape Route.” Sort of a combo of AWB with Weather Report in a back beating mood.
