Blessed with a warm Chet Baker of a tone, trumpeter Tiziano Bianchi creates some clever jazz landscapes as he also plays synthesizer, flugelhorn and even adds his voice to a wonderous album teamed with pianist-keyboardist Claudio ignali, cellist Enrico Ferri and drummer Marco Frattini as well as having guitarist Bill Frisell join in on a couple of tracks.
The albums mixes vintage jazz with electronic textures, such as an Enya-like electronic atmosphere on “Your Eyes” juxtaposed with gorgeously warm horn addition by Tiger Okoshi. Thick textures along well rich cello and dreamy muted horn make “Nin-Com-Poop” and ethereal dream, and a techno “Relate” mixes pretty piano with wondrous voice, cello and horn as “Awaken” has Bianchi’s glowing horn, Chopinesque piano as well as synthetic textures teaming with Ferri’s warm bow.
With Frisell in the mix, A forward pulsed “First Moon” features an assertively jazzy “Your Eyes” with some impressive piano by Vignali includes a plaintive middle section of rich horn and electronic ambience. Dark sepia tones of piano and guitar contrast seductively with the sweet strings and horn on “Firefly’s Dream,” creating a tug of war between sonic poles. This is a creative gem, mixing mainstream acoustic with experimental modernity. Check it out!
