Guitarist Carlos Barbosa delivers sublime Brazilian jazz in a variety of settings with Larry Del Casale/g, Duduka Da Fonseca/perc, Nilson Matta/b and Helio Alves/p for sublime interpretations of classic tunes.
His touch on the nylon strings is sensitive and lyrical, particularly when he goes solo on delicious pieces like “Odeon,” “Interrogando” and “Sambolero.” He gets into some earthy folk sounds with “Prelude/Canto De Ossanha” that takes you to a misty village. Duets with Del Casale include a warm “Manha De Carnaval” and in a setting with rhythm the two dance to “Samba Do Aviao” and Chovendo Na Roseira” while the happy percussion of “Tico Tico” sparkles like a hotwire. This is music to be imbibed and reflected upon. Drink slowly.
