Here’s a release by pianist/composer Bennett Paster that lives up to its title. Paster leads a team of Joel Frahm/ts, Tim Armacost/ts-ss, Alex Pope Norris/tp, Gregory Ryan/b, Willard B. Dyson Jr/dr and Gilad/perc through a collection of modern day post bop, but the tried and true formula sounds astonishingly graceful, fresh and serene here. His flowing piano runs like a spring stream in Yosemite on the lovely “Homecoming” and shy but sleek “A Penny For Kenny.” Bop lines on “Scraper” and a latin flavored “Lewinparie” feature some impressive horn work, with Dyson’s subtle cymbals coax the lithe lines out of “Harmonia Mundi.” Clean and shiny, like freshly wiped windows overlooking Inspiration Point.
