Kelly and John Fumo w/ Fumosonic: Grape

Trumpeter John Fumo joins with sweet toned vocalist Kelly Fumo for a rich and delicate collection of jazz standards. The mood of Fumo’s horn and selection of songs show a strong imbibe from the waters of Chet Baker, and with Kelly’s voice the sepia tones work amazingly well. Sighing voices of resignation are intoned on “I Fall In Love Too Easily” and the gloriously despairing “You Don’t Know What Love Is” while “I Get Along Without You Very Well” is clear and intimate on both fronts and “Lover Man” is soft and wispy. A bit of R&B soul works well on “The Thrill Is Gone” and some bluesy swagger has Kelly in a bold mood for “Ain’t No Use.” Lovely late night loneliness.
