Anne Mette Iversen’s Ternion Quartet: Invincible Nimbus

Bassist Anne Mette Iversen sounds like she’s imbibed from the waters of Charles Mingus on this bop-marrowed but frisky collection of originals with Silke Eberhard/as, Geoffroy De Masure/tb and Roland Schneider/dr. Her bass lines mix between hp and blue pulses as on “Dig Your Heels In” and “Polychromatic Pictures” but the two horns are loose and free thinking, weaving in and out , or floating like a gentle mist as on “The Rose Window.” Schneider has the band trudge through “Ionian Steps” and everyone gets conversant on the intuitive “Within a Diapason.” Comfortable within Dolphy era Mingus as at Antibes.
