Pianist, composer and arranger David Berkman creates rich sonorities with a chamber team of Tim Armacost/ts, Dayna Stephens/ts, Adam Kolker/bcl, Billy Drews/as, Rogerio Boccato/perc, Chris LIghtcap/b and Kenneth Salters/dr. You get a mix of sweet clarinet on “Rain Rain” with some lurking bass clarinet work during “Cynical Episode.” Warm harmonies are featured on a romantic “Sincerely” and the pastoral “Shitamachi” with some clever prismantic fragrances for Drewes’ alto on “Billy.” The team gets a bit peppy for the bopper “Kickstopper” but for the most parts we have a journey into the jazz world of Debussy.
