I caught guitarist Yotam Silberstein at The Blue Whale a couple years ago and was impressed by his mix of lyricism and creativity. This studio album with John Patitucci/b, Vitor Goncalves/key, Glen Zaleski/p-rhodes, Daniel Dor/dr and Andre Mehmari/synth continues Silberstein’s upward trajectory. He mixes electric post bop with gorgeous acoustic etudes on this album, mixing both together on the mystical title track, and sizzling with the percussion on the Brazilian “Capricho De Espanha.” On the acoustic side, rich nylon strings are longing on “Wind On The Lake” and genteel breezes flow on “Night Walk,” with soft graceful moods hovering for “Choro Negro.” Patitucci is a perfect team player here, swinging on the modern sounding “Matcha” and creating wonderful counterpoints on “A Picture of Yafo.” This one’s a wonderful picture worth framing.
