Randy Brecker gives a big band hint of his Brecker Brothers days with the NDR Big Band and guests David Sanborn and Ada Rovatti on this skunk funk of an album. Sanborn and Brecker team up for an irresistible take of material from the 75 classic album with a hard hitting “Rocks” while Frank Delle’s tenor fills in for the departed brother on “Squids.” The band sears through “First Tune of the Set” with some fusiony synth work from Vladyslav Sendecki” and Brecker mixing clear toned bop with muscular chops. A rich “Sozinho” features Brecker on the mellow flugelhorn, and the R&B rocker “Threesome” as brecker and Sanborn duking it out with guitarist Bruno Muller. A funk skunk fest!
