It’s been a few years since guitarist Mimi Fox has released an album, so this one is a double treat. Her distinctive strong touch and attack of the steel strings works well on this clever selection of covers, and her originals show a strong hold onto the jazz tradition.
She has a rich folksy feel on her “Get Away Blues” and adds a classy dash of flamenco to her “Against The Grain” with wonderful digital dexterity in abundance during “Textures of Loving.” She hands a couple Beatle tunes with style, digging a deep pulse on a fun “Day Tripper” and creating pastel impressions on “Blackbird.” Her swing is infectious on a bouncy “There Is No Greater Love” and she glows like a candle for “You Don’t Know What Love Is.” Hopefully a tour is in the schedule to promote this strong album.
