What can be said of Kenny G that hasn’t already be said. It’s like Marx Brothers movies, Barry Manilow, Heavy Metal or Lady Gaga; you are either a devout follower, or you’ll never be one. Even on the cover photo, he looks like he hasn’t changed in 20 years. His tone and music sure hasn’t. As Max Bialastock said in The Producers, “Flaunt it baby. Flaunt it while you can!”
This latest release has him joined with a very similarly coifed sontoorist, Indian Rahul Sharma. The music is smoothed out curry, with almost a complete absence of turmeric. I guess Kenny G ran out of music to play in American dental offices, so he decided to create some background material for the Americans that go to India for their expensive dental work. This stuff should make them feel right at home. A couple remixes of the title track and (are you ready for the title?) “Transcendental Consciousness” (what a surprisingly deep thought!!!) have bit more energy. I guess the ether must be wearing off by that point in having your molars pulled.
