Leader and composer Jim Brennan plays tenor sax, soprano sax, clarinet and bass clarinet with an 11 member team that is overflowing with soulful grooves. The CTI-flavored rhythm team of Rubin De Toledo/b, Jamie Cooper/dr and keyboardist Chris Andrew create some funky soul for the brass and reeds on “Tiger’s Milk” and clippetty clop through “Jocasta” with a softer pulse on “Empress.” Brennan has some nice solo work on the easy driving “Eleven Eleven” with his bass clarinet, and the reeds groove well on the hip “Ozark Mountain Cougar Fightin’” and the tight as a drum “Fant-O-Max.” Funky with rich harmonies.
