Luther Russell: Medium Cool

Rootsy rocker Luther Russell mixes 60s and 70s riffs with a V8 cruising team of Jason Hiller/b, Derek Brown/dr and guests while he sings and plays guitars, keys and various things that go bump in the night. Luther’s voice and sonic approach gives hints of Roger McGuinn and the Byrds with chiming guitars and rich harmonies on pieces such as “”Can’t Be Sad” and “The Sound of Rock and Roll” with hints of Tom Petty during “Can’t Turn Away” “Have You Heard?” and the upbeat “Corvette Summer.” He can sound personal like he’s written a song just for you on “Can’t Turn Away” and tells a good yarn for the twangy “Talkin’ To Myself.” Lots of vintage Americana for the ears.
