Delivering some of the hottest Latin jazz since before California started getting rid of its smog, timbales master Pete Escovedo shows on this San Francisco concert from Jully 22, 2012 that he’s still got the hot blood. Leading a fiery ten pieced band, Escovedo is in perfect form as he sets the pace on the galloping grooves “Picadillo Jam” and the sensuous sliding and gliding of “Take Some Time.” Double timed percussion on “Dance!” features Sheila E on congas and “Dance,” while Kave Koz brings his sax to the front on the silhouetted and subtle “True or False.” Some warm guitar licks are in abundance fom Ray Obiedo on the slick “Brasiliero,” and a meeting of the masters takes place when Arturo Sandoval bounces his trumpet off of a satellite on “Suenos Do Los Torreros.” This is music that is just so right on an abundance of levels.
