Laura Dickinson 17: Auld Lang Syne

Vocalist Laura Dickinson delivers a shining snow globe of a Christmas album here. Her voice ranges between Disney-esque and Andrew Sisters swing,  as she mixes traditional with new here. Of the latter, she is cozy and coy on the TV show “Christmas Is Starting Now” from Phineas and Ferb as well as on the bouncy “Peace and Joy” from “Sofia the First.” The brass is bright as Dickinson boops through “Happy Holiday/The Holiday Season” and she gets jivey on a New Orleansish “Let It Snow!”. Kyle Palmer’s horn teams up with her for a languid “Love , You Didn’t Do Right By Me” while getting coy with trombonist Steve Trapai on “(Everybody’s Waiting For) The Man With The Bag.” She saves best for last, with a lovely duet with pianist Alan Stenberger for an aria of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and is breathy with guitarist Andrew Synowiec on a lovely “Auld Lang Syne.” Lots of poses under the mistletoe here.
