A pair of albums strong on intuitive communication.
The trio of pianist Marilyn Crispell, violinist Tanya Kalmanovitch and electronist Richared Teitelbaum create two improvistory suites on this album. The first, a five part “Memoria/For Pessa Malka” has the three creating ambient and spacious moods with piano and violin on “1” and electronic wall paper and eerie moods on “IV” and “II.” Seven improvisations of violin and piano are performed on “The River” with some dreamy and warm moments on “Climb to a Whisper” and “Stars Visible and Invisible” with jabs and percussive moments on “Stones Remain Still” and ominous moods on “Dark Reflection.” Casual conversations.
The quartet Fourth Page consists of Charlie Beresford/voc-g, Carolyn Hume/key, Peter Marsh/b and Paul May/dr, and they produce six free and impressionistic tunes ranging from 4-14 minutes. Pokes and picks of percussion and strings take up a gentle “Cold of the Night” with electronic and guitar oozes for “Through the Lens.” Dainty droplets and drumming effects take up “Sundial” with edgy clattering effects for “Back of the Line” with moody breaths from Hume forming pastoral panoramas for “Come Out of the Shade.” Atmospheres of sound
