Drummer and keyboardist Jae Sinnett digs a groove like he’s working on a chain gang with a smoky team of Tery Burrell/b, Jay Rakes/g, Weldon Hil/B3 and guests Justin Kauflin/p-key and Jennifer Gammill/voc. Sinnett shows his roots as his opening “Bump in the Road” has 78 rpm record hiss that leads into his own rap over an easy rocking pulse, while “Diddley Strut” is a funky feast replete with Sinnett’ “Y’all”ing us through the rock beat. Hil is chunky on the soulful “Slights and Slings” and Rakes is over the coals as he wails on the ballad blues “After the Storm” and gives a ZZ Top cry for “Burning “Berman.” The team stretches out on “Midnight Jam” making you feel it’s the close of the 3rd set. Rolling with the boys!
