The sensitive piano of Florian Waters teams with the symbiotic team of Ralph Alessi/tp, Linda May Han Oh/b and Nasheet Waits/dr for an open sounding and spacious feeling collection of originals. Wide open panoramas provided by Waits and Weber are created on “Brilliant Wates’ while plaintive droplets team with Alessi’s sweet horn on the post bopper “Fragile Cocoon.” Waits’ cymbals delicately coalesce with Weber as Alessi sighs on the loose and blue “Butterfly Effect” with some classical piano sounds conversing on a brooding tribute to Lee Konitz on “Honestlee.” Most assertive is the dark “Time Horizon” that mixes chiming cymbals to sepia toned brass, still keeping with the mood of deeply attuned conversations.
